This weekend I am photographing this event to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Miami Beach Polo World Cup. For the unintiated to this exciting event, a very brief explanation. A game of beach polo consists of two three-player teams as opposed to the usual four-player teams in field polo. A game consists of four seven minute periods of play and is played in an enclosed sand arena with sideboards of approximately four feet in height, designed to keep the ball in play.
The tournament, which begins Thursday April 24, is considered one of the most unique sporting events in the world. It takes place on beach grounds set up between 20th and 22nd streets, and will bring in some of the world’s best polo players for this four-day competition. This exciting event continues to grow, thanks to incredible and continuing support from sponsors and the many polo enthusiasts so come on out and see what its all about.
General admission to Miami Beach Polo is free. VIP tickets (including shaded grandstand plus food and drinks) are $100 to $150 (Saturday/Sunday). A portion of tickets sales will benefit Little Dreams Foundation.
